What Solo AI Founders Need Beyond AI

AI can make solo entrepreneurship extraordinarily powerful, but experience, judgment, discipline, and resilience determine whether a founder can direct that power well.

Yesterday, during a short phone call, someone asked me about the pros and cons of solo entrepreneurship that actively uses AI. This is how I answered.

  • I am in my early forties and have a family—my wife and children—so relationships with my family and the people around me already give me ample love, belonging, and emotional stability. Through my experience leading startups in Korea and abroad, I have also established optimized routines and disciplines that let me remain devoted to work while taking care of myself and those around me.

  • Someone with sound mental health and a clear goal can work with 100 or 1,000 AI agents without a problem. AI is such a powerful and essential tool for entrepreneurship that I feel grateful for it every day I use it. But for a first-time founder, or for someone who lacks experience and has not yet established sound criteria for judgment, relying only on AI may actually make the path more difficult.

  • You must be able to tell whether an AI agent is doing the work correctly and according to your intent, then continually improve it as a system. The main ingredients for that ability are hard-won experience, taste and sensibility, and conviction about the future grounded in them.

Kakao Ventures is opening a hacker house. Interestingly, it does not stop at gathering brilliant AI builders. It also includes a focus on "the habits and discipline to remain tenacious and persistent, without burning out, until the work succeeds." People exercise together first, return to work intensely, and ask and share questions with one another.

AI accelerates everything. Tenacity, perseverance, and resilience have always mattered to founders, but a team's development capabilities often kept those qualities out of the spotlight. The AI era now demands them directly.
