-How much do chairmen value exercise?
"For them, exercise is not a hobby they enjoy when they have time. It is a desperate fight for survival. As soon as they arrive at work at dawn, they spend an hour in the gym. If they are busy, they still sweat for 10 or 20 minutes to pull their condition up. Even if they leave work at midnight, they exercise to release bodily tension before going to bed. Even on business trips, they run in the rain. Exercise is something they carry out like an essential daily duty."
-I do not see that in chaebol dramas...
"The public thinks chaebol chairmen enjoy glamorous lives and occasionally give orders. In reality, it is a battlefield. Even while they are exercising, executives line up and rush to give reports. Sometimes they run out without even washing off the sweat. It is not just the chairman's personal body. It is like a strategic asset of the company."
-Why do they exercise that intensely?
"Because an unshakable body and mind are the final weapon. One decision they make can change the fate of tens of thousands of people and erase trillions of won. That pressure is hard to imagine from the outside. Even ordinary people cannot make important decisions when their body hurts or their head is foggy. Business leaders do not have the luxury of postponing judgment. They train their physical strength so they can stay calm and focused at every decisive moment."
