Productivity Without Purpose Is Waste

A short note on why the question 'productivity for what?' feels refreshing in the AI era. Without purpose and philosophy, productivity gains can become wasted tokens or wasted people.

I have spent ten years watching people shout about productivity gains without knowing the purpose or direction, grinding people down in the process. So when I hear voices these days asking, "Productivity for what?" in response to calls to use AI to raise productivity, I find it refreshing. In fact, because we have not been asking this question, how much fake work has existed all this time? Without purpose and philosophy, it was wasted people, just as it becomes wasted tokens.
